Council supports the provision of public immunisation sessions to assist in maintaining appropriate immunisation rates and health within our community. Immunisation sessions are held by the South East Regional Community Health Service every second and fourth Wednesday of the month in the Operational Services department. The public vaccination sessions provide for the vaccination of children in accordance with the Australian Immunisation Schedule free of charge and provide the opportunity for adults to be vaccinated under a user pay system. Appointments are necessary for the public sessions to ensure adequate resources are available. Please see the 2017 Immunisation Public Schedule below for the dates and times of sessions.

For any enquiries or bookings please contact Community Health prior to attending the public session, on either (08) 8721 1478 or 0455 077 763 between 9.00am-3.00pm (Monday to Friday).

‘Community sharps’ is the collective term given to those needles, syringes and lancets used by members of the community for the administration of medication. For example the treatment of diabetes, pain relief for arthritis or prevention of allergic reactions.

  • Best practice for safe community sharps disposal:
  • Place all community sharps into an approved sharps container
  • Do not overfill the container, see the ‘fill line’ on the outside of the container
  • Ensure the lid is securely closed
  • Dispose of containers only at a community sharps disposal facility
  • Always keep containers out of reach of children

Environmentally friendly fibreboard sharps containers can be purchased in a number of sizes at cost from Operational Services at Council.

Please note that Council requires all sharps to be in a sealed and approved sharps container (AS 4031-1992 or AS 4939-2001) for disposal.

Community Sharps Disposal Program is located at:

City of Mount Gambier Council Offices
Operational Services, Level 1,
Civic Centre 10 Watson Terrace,
Mount Gambier

Thank you for disposing of your sharps responsibly!
